On our local public radio station, this morning, with G. causing noise in the background, I hear a story about a college, and this guy is saying, "well, we have nothing against girlfriends, we just want people exhibit appropriate behavior with them." I'm standing there thinking, WTF? That can't be what he said.

Turns out he said "cellphones," not "girlfriends." I'm so relieved.

Another lovely walk this morning. Last night we had our first frost of any note, although despite predictions, it wasn't a killing frost. Yesterday I'd picked all of the tomatoes and all of the rhubarb we had left (7 bags of rhubarb, by the Jesus!). G. helped and asked me a bunch of questions about the planets and the solar system.

As the sun melted last night's frost, it dripped sparkling from the trees. Surprisingly, a few crickets were still singing in the sunlight, and birds are now seriously on the move. A few of the trees have lost leaves only on parts of branches, and thus look a little like assymetrical topiary, or shaved poodles. I was giddy with the day, with the sunlight and the plentiful spiderwebs; the rhythms of the trees and the symphonic finale of wind and bugs and birds, the waves of autumn color finally asserting themselves. In a moment like this, I feel like I could, in a flash, achieve Oneness and disintegrate into the landscape; just disappear and become energy without form.

So, yeah, it was a good walk.
