Butterflies
Jun. 30th, 2005 06:15 pmToday I saw a Mourning Cloak butterfly. I don't see them too often in our area, for some reason. They are such an amazing purple-brown mahogany color, so rich...and then with the light yellow and blue...I need a DIGITAL CAMERA now, please, so I can go around and take pictures of stuff all the time. rrrrr. This year, I am going to get one, once the craft fair revenue starts coming in. Because I need it for my business, right? You bet. And I know the IRS will appreciate that I need it for my personal life, too.
Of course, there is then no guarantee that I can take a decent picture of a butterfly, but let me live with my delusions, ok?
I also saw what I think was a Great Spangled Fritillary, but it flew away too fast for me to be sure.
In other (not happy) news, they are taking down the huge old maple which was next door to the law office, so for 2 hours, I had to sit there and grit my teeth while they hacked it to bits. Maybe it was rotted, I don't know, but I get very distressed about the loss of these beautiful old trees. In the woods, it's one thing, they fall down naturally when they get old and rotten. Or die standing. But in town, people just decide they might be rotten or might fall on their house, and down it comes. Our town is relatively decent, they usually replant, but just two days ago, I walked by that tree and said to myself, "how lovely that that tree is there, because I am so hot and it is making so much beautiful shade." Compared to the little trees they replanted a couple of years ago, which make tiny puddles of shade that don't bloody amount to much.
