First of all:

In the 2000 census, the town of Millers Falls had 1,072 people. It hasn't changed all that much in the last 8 years. Today when I went to vote, I was #661. They were expecting 150 more before the night was through, plus the absentee ballots. I asked them if they expected to break any records, and they said they already had. Then they hand-cranked my paper ballot into the old voting machine.
My friend S., who is 50, registered and voted this year, for the first time in her entire life. I am so proud of her! It's funny, everybody I know votes, I thought. But S. just grew up in a family that didn't. But I think they did this year.
There were so many folks in the parking lot at the poll that we had to be careful to not get run over.
I'm using my Walt Whitman icon because I think he'd be cheering this all on with great enthusiasm.
