gallery-scouting
Jan. 22nd, 2004 03:50 pmI'm at work today; yesterday, Morgan and I went gallery scouting, and although I got some information about some different shops, it was the kind of errand where things don't necessarily turn out the way you expect them to. We went to Easthampton first to check out the Cottage St area, where many of the denizens are artists, but it turned out that most of those studios are closed to the public. There's a gallery there that carries work from many of those folks, but it was closed for vacation; I have the name of it, and I'll keep it to follow up on if I have time. It was fun exploring the old factory buildings that have been divided up into studios, even if we couldn't see the studios themselves. I find old factories to be pretty fascinating, and this particular one has a stream that runs under it in a wide shallow channel; it had a creepy similarity to a dream I had last fall. We wandered the empty halls of two different buildings, exploring and looking at some of the interesting details of floor plan.
Then we got sick of that, so we went to Northampton and had enchiladas in mole sauce at La Veracruzana; then to the Guild to buy art supplies. I bought a lot of stuff, but I only get there about twice a year, if that, so I have the excuse of needing to stock up on various things while I have the chance. So we ended up not getting to any of the fancy galleries in Northampton; but we ran into some friends of M's who work at the Smith Art Museum, and I passed out my postcard with pictures of stuff on it, and so now there's a chance that I will be able to sell to the Museum gift shop...hmm. My stuff would probably go as well there as in one of the fancy galleries, so I'm open to this possibility. Also, there's another store that I know of that's moving to Northampton, they think, and are interested in carrying my jewelry when they open in their new location; however, I don't want to mention who and what at this point, because I don't know if it's classified info.
Gotta go back to work, my lunch is over.
