Another day in the life of a cooperative
Jan. 20th, 2004 03:00 pmAh, the weekend. Actually, it was more like one day off, because Saturday was my day to work at the Arts Cooperative. It was totally dead all day, until a half an hour before closing. I about tripled our sales between the time we were supposed to close at 7 and 8 pm. It made for a long day. Tom always likes to point out to me that other people seem to leave the store five minutes after it's closed; but how can you close if your store is full of people and you're actually likely to sell stuff? I persist that those folks who would close have the attitude problem, not me. But then, that's a steady income for me, even in the dead of winter, so my interests are well served by staying open. The day is shot whether I get home at 7:30 or 9:30. I'm fairly certain that we're the only store in SF that stays open that late, except for the liquor store, but when you have the restaurant traffic coming through, what can you do, except make sacrifices for art? And that's me, always ready to sacrifice for art, right?
Hey, it could be worse, it could be EVERY Saturday
