are the chill of the dark, the ice on the ground, the light and heat of the risen sun, and the mist that is born from its alchemy. In the airy month of October, the mist is like smoke rising from the flame-colored leaves, sharply aglow, dancing to the bent morning light, while melted frost and leaves rain down from tree-crowns. The death of the year is brilliant and full; quiet, too, but for the rustling, restive wind and its birds.

Lovely, and truer words were never spoken. This was my experience this morning as well.

Yes, I wish I had pictures. There was an arc of mist that was lit like a rainbow--reaching into the sky, slightly colored, and glowing out of the rest of the mist surrounding. Truly magical.

**wonderful**

Some things are too beautiful to catch with photos, even when you have your camera. The mist on Lake Champlain when were were there for Waka's marathon last month glowed golden in the dawn light, and I tried to snap pictures out the car window, but in no way caught it....

I know. I suspect that somebody caught this, though, since the field I was looking at appeared to be full of photographers from the Hallmark School. :)

A friend on my reading list caught a low-lying rainbow that sounds a little like what you describe (though what you describe seems more glowing): http://www.flickr.com/photos/heleninwales/3900927942/

Wow! that's spectacular!

It had a very pale spectrum, I think--I'm not even sure, because it was barely perceptible. And it arched into the sky.
