westerling: (Tree Pin)
Watching the moon rise over the trees, at first just a hint of brightness, then it rose into a haze, a sky striped with clouds. There are bullfrogs out, and constant rustlings in the leaves all around, occastional peeps of some small amphibian? mammal? connected to those rustlings; the sudden unexpected flutter of wings; a dog barking somewhere on the hill. There is activity everywhere in the summer, nights, too, not just days. What a racket! and for a while, none of it was human-related.

It's a gorgeous summer night. I've seen fireflies tonight, but not in my yard. The ones in my yard seem to be gone for the season, sadly. I miss them.
